Most realtors are familiar with a “homestead exemption” for reducing property taxes. However, the concept of “homestead” in Florida is so much more ! We will review the Florida Homestead Act and how houses are (a) taxed, exempted, transferred, and devised, (b) restricted from sale or transfer under certain circumstances, and (c) protection of homestead under the Florida Constitution against forced sale, leins and attachments.
